Latest Rutgers football commit fits Greg Schiano’s DB mold

A rangy defensive back, who has the speed to cover. That’s what Rutgers thinks its with its getting in Kevin Levy, a three-star junior from Cardinal Newman High in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Levy, who has played wide receiver, cornerback and safety, gave a verbal commitment Saturday, picking the Scarlet Knights over Florida State and Louisville, two schools that were considered favorites to land Levy’s commitment before his surprising pledge to Rutgers.
His best attribute? Speed.
Levy has run six sub-11 times in the 100-meter dash with a personal best of 10.62. He has also run 21.54 in the 200. His legitimate track speed and size fit the mold of what coach Greg Schiano likes to see in his cornerbacks. That’s why most college scouts think Levy’s future will be on the defensive side of the ball.
At 6-0, 178 pounds with long arms, Levy fits the size of a prototypical Rutgers cornerback — a position of strength for the Scarlet Knights this fall. The secondary returns both starting cornerbacks from a season ago — juniors Max Melton and Robert Longerbeam — as well as several rotational pieces including Kessawn Abraham, Eric Rogers and Charles Amankwaa.
With Levy’s commitment, Rutgers now has 22 players in its 2024 class, six of which come from Florida. The class ranks 31st in the nation, according to 247sports.com, which is the highest-ranked class for the Scarlet Knights since it finished 23rd in 2012. Rutgers finished with the 33rd-ranked class in 2022, the highest group of Schiano’s second stint.
