Daryl Worley

CB, FS/KR · West Virginia
After earning First Team All-Big 12 honors in 2015 with a career-high 12 pass breakups and six interceptions, Worley elected to give up his final collegiate eligibility and declare early for the NFL. He's a three year starter with the length, speed and ballskills the NFL is searching for but comes with character concerns following a suspension for the final game of his career at West Virginia (a Cactus Bowl win over Arizona State) due to academics and a two game suspension in 2014 following an assault of a woman in a night club on September 14, 2014. Claiming that the charges came as a result of an attack on his girlfriend, Worley pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault and received probation with no jail time after initially being charged with misdemeanor battery. If teams are comfortable with Worley's character, he could draw consideration as early as the middle rounds as he projects well as a press corner at the next level and possesses the size and range to potentially make the switch to safety, as well.

in our view

Worley led the Big 12 in both interceptions and passes defensed over the regular season in 2015 and certainly looks the part of an NFL defensive back with good height, broad shoulders and a tapered frame. While scouts will appreciate his talent, Worley isn't the consistent open-field tackler his size suggests and comes with plenty of off-field concerns, making him too much of a gamble for some clubs.

strengths

Offers an intriguing natural skill set including great height, long arms and steady acceleration to handle outside coverage duties. Uses aggressive hands to get an initial shove on the receiver and isn't afraid to ride wideouts throughout the route. Locates the ball quickly and shows the confidence, competitive nature, strength and leaping ability to contest the pass, including the hand-eye coordination and soft hands to pluck the interception. Generally reliable open-field tacker who flashes physicality to intimidate.

weaknesses

Faster than he is quick, showing some stiffness when changing direction. Far too willing to let teammates do the dirty work in run support for a defender of his size. Comes with significant character red flags which require investigating.
