Cameron Sutton
strengths
Adequate size and length for the position to match up physically with wideouts. Composed athlete with smooth body control. Quiet feet to collect himself, gather and go. Quick to read plays in front of him, sinking with plant-and-drive burst to beat blocks. Follows the eyes of the quarterback to the catch point and competes with outstanding ballskills - reliable hands with seven career interceptions. Seasoned in coverage and brings a veteran presence to the field. Leverages the field well on outside runs to filter the ball back inside. Productive punt returner, averaging 14.6 yards per return and scoring three times (45/657/3). Senior captain with dependable character and already prepares like a pro.
weaknesses
Average speed and struggles to recover once the receiver gains a step. Transition tends to stall, playing too much on his heels with high hips. Can be driven off the top of routes. Inconsistent with his back to the ball and needs to improve his timing. Doesn't take enough chances and very calculated. Needs to be more reliable as a run defender due to misjudged angles and missed tackles - averaged under three tackles per start. Late to shed and can be eliminated from the play by perimeter blockers. Lacks the body strength to box out or consistently win 50-50 passes. Much more productive as a freshman and sophomore than his junior and senior seasons. Missed six games as a senior after fracturing his right ankle (Sept. 2016).
2016: Suffered a fractured ankle against Ohio on Sept. 17.
