Report: Three-star safety signee Joshua Lair decommits from UW Huskies
By Mike Vorel Seattle Times staff reporter Washington 2024 safety signee Joshua Lair has decommitted and been released from his national letter of intent, according to a report Friday by On3. com. Lair — a 6-foot-1, 178-pound safety — signed with Washington in December before the departure of coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.
He’s now free to be recruited by outside schools. The Missouri City, Texas, product is the third UW signee to be released from his national letter of intent, joining edges Noah Carter and Keona Wilhite. The Huskies signed two other safeties in the 2024 class, four-star prospect Peyton Waters and three-star Paul Mencke Jr.
Because Lair had yet to enroll at UW, he doesn’t need to enter the transfer portal to be recruited by other schools. He was credited with 52 tackles and 10 tackles for loss in his senior season. The Fort Bend Marshall High School standout is ranked as a three-star recruit and the No.
44 safety in the 2024 class by 247Sports. He previously reported offers from Baylor, LSU, Texas, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Utah and more. Twenty-one Huskies have also entered the transfer portal this offseason, though junior defensive back Dyson McCutcheon ultimately decided to return to UW.
