Giants set initial 53-man roster after cuts: Which surprising moves did Joe Schoen make?

The Giants’ initial 53-man roster is set. Before we take a look at it, an important note: This roster likely will change a bit, based on what general manager Joe Schoen does during waiver claims. If the Giants claim a player (or more) off waivers, they’ll need to cut that many players who made the initial 53-man roster, in order to make room.

The waiver claim period ends at noon Wednesday — shortly after the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline of 4 p. m. Tuesday.

But for now, here is what the Giants’ 53-man roster looks like: QUARTERBACK Retained (2): Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor Cut: Tommy DeVito RUNNING BACK Retained (4): Saquon Barkley, Matt Breida, Eric Gray, Gary Brightwell Cut: James Robinson, Jashaun Corbin WIDE RECEIVER Retained (6): Isaiah Hodgins, Jalin Hyatt, Darius Slayton, Parris Campbell, Sterling Shepard, Wan’Dale Robinson Cut: Collin Johnson, Jaydon Mickens, Jamison Crowder, Kalil Pimpleton, David Sills, Cole Beasley Injured reserve: Bryce Ford-Wheaton TIGHT END Retained (3): Darren Waller, Daniel Bellinger, Lawrence Cager Cut: Ryan Jones IR: Chris Myarick Non-football injury list: Tommy Sweeney OFFENSIVE LINE Retained (9): Evan Neal, Matt Peart, Mark Glowinski, Joshua Ezeudu, John Michael Schmitz, Ben Bredeson, Andrew Thomas, Marcus McKethan, Shane Lemieux Cut: Julien Davenport, Korey Cunningham, Jack Anderson, Wyatt Davis, Tyre Phillips, Sean Harlow IR: J.
