NFL Team Report - Los Angeles Rams</h2><br>--The Rams signed free-agent running back C.J. Anderson, in part to preserve depth behind Todd Gurley II with backup Justin Davis banged up but also as a safety net in the event Gurley's recent knee problems sideline him. Ideally, Anderson emerges as the primary backup to Gurley with Malcolm Brown sidelined for the remainder of the season.<p></p> If so, the Rams may be the beneficiaries of a timely pickup as Anderson is a proven NFL running back who can be productive as a runner and pass receiver.<p></p> "You can see him playing a role as early as this week," said Rams head coach Sean McVay. "I'm really impressed just being around him. Very sharp, cerebral player. He's played in some systems very similar in terms of the verbiage and some of the things we try to emphasize specific to the run game and in protections."<p></p> Anderson's background with the Denver Broncos, where he played for Mike Shanahan disciple Gary Kubiak - McVay is also a product of that coaching tree - should help Anderson make an immediate impact.<p></p> --Running back Todd Gurley II is dealing with inflammation in his left knee and the Rams will monitor his usage and playing time accordingly over the final two regular-season games. The tricky part is the Rams need two more wins - or one win and a Chicago Bears loss - to wrap up a first-round bye in the playoffs so resting Gurley is an option they'll use only if absolutely necessary.<p></p> "It's going to be predicated on what (Gurley) says, what the doctors are saying," Rams head coach Sean McVay said. "If there's a chance he's going to do something that's gonna set him back for when you get into the playoffs, different things like that, that's when we're going to have to make smart decisions for our football team."<p></p> BY THE NUMBERS: 26 - That's the combined years of NFL experience for Rams CB Aqib Talib and Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald. Yet Sunday's game will mark only the third time they have faced off in their careers (2010, 2014). Talib's clubs - Tampa Bay in 2010 and Denver in 2014 - were 2-0 in those games.
