UCLA to hire Frye as offensive line coach

UCLA to hire Frye as offensive line coach

New UCLA coach Chip Kelly apparently has filled a vacancy on his staff.

According to multiple reports Thursday, offensive line coach Justin Frye is leaving Boston College for UCLA. He will replace Hank Fraley, who departed for the NFL's Detroit Lions to work for new coach Matt Patricia.

Frye was partly responsible for helping the Eagles establish a solid running game.

Frye, a former Indiana player, got into coaching as a graduate assistant with the Hoosiers and then at Florida. He followed coach Steve Addazio to Temple and then to Boston College.

To replace Frye on the Boston College staff, the school will hire Phil Trautwein as offensive line coach, according to the reports. Trautwein had just taken a job on Yale's coaching staff, but will return to Boston College, where he served as a graduate assistant from 2013 to 2015.

Trautwein also worked for two years at Davidson as its special teams coordinator and tight ends coach. He has four additional years of NFL playing experience with the St. Louis Rams, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers.
