Texas Tech QB Bowman: No plans to transfer
Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Alan Bowman (10) threw for 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his freshman season.
Texas Tech freshman quarterback Alan Bowman has no plans to transfer from the school.
There was speculation about Bowman's future when the university fired coach Kliff Kingsbury on Sunday after the Red Raiders finished 5-7 this season.
However, Bowman put to rest any of those worries and said he is eager to work with new head coach Matt Wells, who was hired away from Utah State.
"I'm here for Texas Tech. I love the university, love the team," Bowman said, per the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. "I met with the coaches yesterday, really enjoyed 'em, so I'm excited for it."
Wells, who was scheduled to be formally introduced by Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon, was named Mountain West Conference coach of the year for a second time after guiding Utah State to a 44-34 record this year.
"I think he brings the energy," said Bowman. "He brings a lot of energy, has a lot of emotion, which we like, wants to play fast and that's what we do."
Bowman also reflected on the recurrence of a partially collapsed lung that limited him to eight games during his freshman season.
"I'm good. It's kind of a weird injury, right? Collapsed lung," said Bowman. "Hadn't really heard of it before it happened. So I'm good. I feel great. Can't really feel pain in your lung."
Bowman initially sustained the injury against West Virginia on Sept. 29. He reportedly aggravated the injury after being on the receiving end of a hard hit from Oklahoma linebacker Chris Bolton on Nov. 3.
After undergoing treatment for the lung, which involved the insertion of a tube into his chest, Bowman is confident that the issue will not be a concern going forward.
"They said like 10 weeks until it's completely healed," said Bowman. "There's scar tissue on the lung and whenever the hole scars over, then it actually is stronger than your lung muscle is. So next season, perfectly fine. No problems."
Bowman finished the season by throwing for 2,638 yards with 17 touchdowns against seven interceptions. The native of Grapevine, Texas, completed 69.4 percent of his passes.
