Chicago Bears quarterback Chase Daniel (4) slides for the first down against the Kansas City Chiefs in the first quarter at Soldier Field during a preseason game in August.
Quarterback Chase Daniel is expected to be under center when the Chicago Bears visit the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, multiple media outlets reported on Wednesday. Fellow quarterback Mitchell Trubisky officially was listed as doubtful after sustaining an injury to his throwing shoulder following a late hit by safety Harrison Smith during the fourth quarter of Sunday night's 25-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Trubisky, 24, has an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder and not a labrum issue, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Daniel hasn't started an NFL game since the 2014 season. He has completed 51 of 78 passes for 480 yards with a touchdown and an interception during his nine-year career. The 32-year-old Daniel is familiar with head coach Matt Nagy's offensive scheme. The two were together with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-2015 before reuniting in Chicago during the offseason. Tyler Bray likely will be called up from the practice squad to serve as Daniel's backup for Chicago (7-3), which is in the midst of a short turnaround heading into Thursday's 12:30 p.m. ET contest against Detroit (4-6). The Bears are confident that Trubisky will be ready to play in Week 13 against the New York Giants. Trubisky threw for 165 yards and rushed for 43 more versus the Vikings. He threw for a career-high 355 yards with three touchdowns in Chicago's 34-22 victory over Detroit on Nov. 11. The 6-foot-3, 222-pound Trubisky has thrown for 2,469 yards with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 10 games this season. He has completed 406 of 651 passes for 4,662 yards with 27 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 22 career contests since being selected by the Bears with the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
