Running back Antonio Williams (26), shown playing for Ohio State last season, reportedly will be eligible at North Carolina this year.
Running back Antonio Williams, a transfer from Ohio State, will be eligible to play for North Carolina this season, Inside Carolina reported. The news organization said sources confirmed that the NCAA made the ruling after Williams submitted a waiver to the organization. Williams, who has two years of eligibility remaining, later tweeted out the news, saying: "Your boy is cleared to play....let's work." The 5-11, 210-pund Williams originally committed to the Tar Heels in 2016 while at North Stanley High School right down the road in New London, N.C., but changed his mind and signed with Ohio State. Last season, Williams rushed for 290 yards and three touchdowns in eight games for the Buckeyes, but was considered the third option in the backfield this season behind talented underclassmen J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber. At North Carolina, Williams is expected to compete for playing time with junior Jordon Brown and Michael Carter.
