RB Watson to transfer from Cal

California senior running back Tre Watson is planning to finish his career at another school. Watson said this week he will seek another school that is a good fit as a graduate transfer for his final season of eligibility. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Watson had his best season for the Golden Bears in 2016, when he ran for 709 yards, averaging 5.0 yards per carry, and four touchdowns. Last fall, Watson suffered a lower-body injury that hampered him for much of the season. He finished his Cal career with eight starts in 37 games. "After many months of discussion with my family and lots of prayers I have decided to transfer from the University of California Berkeley this spring and pursue my masters degree elsewhere while playing my last season of eligibility," Watson said. "I will be opening my recruiting process and start taking trips immediately. "I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to do what I love and pursue dreams beyond this game. I also want to give thanks to my family, friends, teammates, coaches, and all of the Cal community for all the support over these past 3 and a half years. I will forever be a Bear, and I love you all. Go Bears!" Watson's exit and the departures of three other running backs depleted Cal's depth at the position. Patrick Laird is ticketed for the starting job next fall after rushing for 1,127 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017.
