Raiders to name Brian Callahan QB coach
The Oakland Raiders will name Brian Callahan their new quarterbacks coach, multiple media outlets reported Friday. Callahan, the son of former Oakland head coach Bill Callahan, will join an overhauled coaching staff under Jon Gruden, who left ESPN to replace Jack Del Rio. The younger Callahan spent the past two seasons as the quarterbacks coach with the Detroit Lions. He beat out former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Tim Rattay for the Raiders position, Sports Illustrated reported. The Lions, who fired coach Jim Caldwell after four seasons, had the league's sixth-ranked passing attack at 261.4 yards per game this season. Prior to joining Detroit, Callahan spent six seasons on the coaching staff of the Denver Broncos. He was the quarterbacks coach during Denver's run to a Super Bowl championship following the 2015 season.
