Oregon TE McCormick sidelined for the season

Oregon's 58-24 victory over Bowling Green in the season opener did not come without a setback as starting tight end Cam McCormick suffered a broken bone in his leg and will miss the rest of the season. "He'll be sorely missed not only as a player but as a teammate," head coach Mario Cristobal stated. "The guys certainly love him. The hospital was a packed place for him in support of him." McCormick caught six passes for 89 yards and a touchdown last season as a redshirt freshman. McCormick was a surprise winner of a position battle during fall camp when he beat out junior Jacob Breeland for the starting tight-end spot. The 6-foot-5, 253-pound McCormick had one catch before he suffered his season-ending injury. With McCormick sidelined, the starting tight end spot likely will be filled by Breeland, who started 11 games for the Ducks in 2017. Breeland had a team-leading five touchdown receptions last season, while catching 18 passes for 320 yards. Junior Ryan Bay and senior transfer Kano Dillon will be the backups for Breeland. Oregon plans to play true freshman Spencer Webb as well, although Webb did play against Bowling Green. No. 24 Oregon (1-0) hosts Portland State (0-1) on Saturday.
