Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert announced on Wednesday that he intends to remain in school and return for the 2019 season. Herbert is viewed as a top quarterback prospect for the 2019 NFL Draft. "The University of Oregon has been a special place to me for as long as I can remember," Herbert said in a statement on Twitter. "Words will never be able to express my feelings of gratitude toward the people that have built and maintain our program. "What I have come to realize, though, is that nothing could pull me away from the opportunities that we have in front of us. as we prepare for our bowl game, I would like to ensure that there are no distractions outside of this game. My commitment to my teammates, our coaches, Duck fans and the University of Oregon has never been stronger. I'll be returning to the University of Oregon for my senior year." Herbert threw for 2,985 yards with 28 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season for Oregon (8-4), which will face Michigan State (7-5) in the Redbox Bowl on Monday (9 p.m. ET). He has also rushed for 173 yards and two scores. The 6-foot-6, 233-pound Herbert declared himself healthy for the bowl game earlier this month after sustaining a deep bruise on his shoulder during the Ducks' win over Oregon State on Nov. 23. By remaining in school, Herbert will have an opportunity to throw passes to his brother next season. Tight end Patrick Herbert announced he'll attend Oregon in May. "We couldn't be more excited for Justin to return for his senior season. He is a special talent on the field, but, more importantly, a special person and leader off the field," Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal said. "Being a native of Oregon, Justin wanted to make sure the announcement was made here in Eugene before we left for the bowl game. As a two-time Academic All-American, he embodies what we want our culture to be and is a great representative of our University and community. We are fortunate to have him in our program.". Justin Herbert has thrown for 6,904 yards with 62 touchdowns and 17 interceptions during his collegiate career.
