NFL notebook: Seahawks LB Kendricks suspended indefinitely
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks (56) started Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
The NFL has suspended Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks indefinitely, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.
Kendricks had been appealing an NFL suspension that was handed down for his involvement in insider trading. Kendricks lost the appeal Tuesday, and the indefinite suspension for violating the personal conduct policy began as a result.
Kendricks was released by the Cleveland Browns in August after Kendricks and co-defendant Damilare Sonoiki were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and one count of securities fraud.
Kendricks pleaded guilty to the charges on Sept. 6.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 24, and based on federal guidelines, he could be sentenced for up to 37 months in prison.
Kendricks signed with the Seahawks in early September. He has appeared in three games, including two starts, for Seattle this season, and he recorded two sacks and 13 tackles.
--Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that he has little to say on the potential return of running back Le'Veon Bell.
"I have not talked to Le'Veon and I really have no Le'Veon update," Tomlin said. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Nothing has changed from my perspective in that regard."
Tomlin's comments come one day after ESPN's Jeremy Fowler cited a source as saying that Bell plans to return between Weeks 7 and 8. The Steelers are on their bye in Week 7 before hosting the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 on Oct. 28.
--The Los Angeles Rams waived kicker Sam Ficken and signed Cairo Santos, the team announced.
Santos is not expected to hold the job long, as he will be replaced when Greg Zuerlein is ready to return from a groin injury. He is expected to be back soon.
Ficken has done the kicking for the Rams the past two games, but he made only one field goal -- a 34-yarder -- in three attempts. He did make all 10 of his extra-point attempts.
Santos has made 90 of 107 career field-goal attempts and 127 of 132 extra points in 51 games with the Kansas City Chiefs and two games with the Chicago Bears.
--Detroit Lions starting safety Quandre Diggs sustained a broken hand during the team's 26-24 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, according to a report.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the injury, but was unclear if -- or how long -- Diggs would be sidelined. The Lions (1-3) will have a tall order on Sunday (1 p.m. ET) when they face Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers (2-1-1).
Rookie Tracy Walker potentially would see an increase in workload in the absence of the 5-foot-9, 200-pound Diggs, who was signed to a three-year contract extension this offseason.
--The Cleveland Browns placed cornerback Terrance Mitchell on injured reserve and signed defensive back Jeremiah McKinnon from the practice squad, the team announced.
Mitchell, who had surgery Monday to repair a broken wrist, will miss a minimum of eight games. Initial reports indicated Mitchell was likely out for the season, but Browns coach Hue Jackson said on Monday that he did not think the injury would end Mitchell's season.
Mitchell, who joined the Browns as an unrestricted free agent this year, started each of the first four games this season. He recorded 19 tackles, an interception, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
McKinnon has never played in a regular-season NFL game. He spent the first four weeks this season on the Browns' practice squad. He also spent time on the practice squads of the Tennessee Titans (2016) and New York Giants (2017).
--Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson isn't putting any extra emphasis on facing one of his former teams in his next game.
Peterson, in fact, said he has no issue with the New Orleans Saints ahead of their encounter on Monday night.
"I don't have any enemies down there," the 33-year-old Peterson said, via the Washington Post. "It was a wonderful city. They treated me well. I will be back for some beignets when I get down there. But it'll be good to see some of the guys that I went through training camp with through that whole grind process. Unfortunately, it didn't work out."
--Cameron Heyward is tired of seeing the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense shredded by the opposition.
The Steelers (1-2-1) rank near the bottom of the league in most defensive categories and they have yielded 449 yards or more in each of the last three games. Pittsburgh ranks 30th in yards allowed per game (420.5), 26th in points permitted (29.0) and 25th in yards per play surrendered to an opponent (6.0).
Heyward, who is a defensive captain, said that the team needs to focus on "assignment football and being more accountable."
"It's about believing in the defense," Heyward said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I'm not for big speeches. I look for guys to step up. The kitchen is hot right now, and everyone is looking to get out, so we have to get to work and settle it down. Either buy in, or don't get on the field.
"Our defense is built on everyone doing their 1/11th. That's the way it's always been, and we have to get back to that."
--Ryan Fitzpatrick has accepted his role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite becoming the first quarterback in the NFL to throw for over 400 yards in three straight games.
Jameis Winston was named the starting quarterback of the Buccaneers on Monday, thus relegating Fitzpatrick to a backup role.
While Fitzpatrick didn't love the idea of ceding his starting job to Winston, he also knew what was at stake entering the season with Winston set to serve a three-game suspension.
"What I said to my dad after how Week 1 went, and Week 2 and Week 3, was basically... 'I'm either gonna win the NFL MVP this year or I'll be back at the bench at some point.' That's just the reality of the situation," the 35-year-old Fitzpatrick said, per ESPN. "I wish I could still be out there but that's the way that it goes and I'll accept my role."
--The Houston Texans' secondary must answer to another significant injury with fifth-year cornerback Aaron Colvin possibly out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
"It sounds like he could possibly play again this year but I'm not definitive about that right now," head coach Bill O'Brien said Monday during his weekly press conference.
Colvin could join fellow cornerback Kevin Johnson on the injured reserve list. Johnson was placed on IR after suffering concussions in the preseason and then in the season opener at New England.
