NFL notebook: Packers' top three receivers sit out practice

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams (17) suffered a calf injury this week.
The Green Bay Packers may be without their top three receivers on Sunday, because none of the three was expected to practice on Thursday. Davante Adams, the team's No. 1 receiver with 28 receptions, 285 yards and three touchdowns, left Wednesday's practice with a calf injury and worked with the rehab group on Thursday, coach Mike McCarthy said. Randall Cobb is still sidelined with a hamstring injury. He said last week he was not close to returning and he also is working with the rehab group. In three games this season, Cobb has 17 catches for 194 yards and one score. Geronimo Allison remains in concussion protocol after taking a hit in Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills. He has recorded 19 receptions this season to go along with 289 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Rookies Marquez Valdes-Scantling, J'Mon Moore and Equanimeous St. Brown were expected to get most of the snaps with the first-team unit during Thursday's practice. --Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook did not practice because of a hamstring injury, and head coach Mike Zimmer expects to list Cook as questionable on Friday's injury report. The Pioneer Press reported that the Vikings will make a game-day decision on whether Cook will play in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cook injured his hamstring in overtime against Green Bay on Sept. 16. He missed one game before returning against the Los Angeles Rams last week. Cook rushed for just 20 yards on 10 carries in that Thursday night game, and played only 18 of 74 snaps. He said on Monday that his hamstring continues to bother him. Also, cornerback Trae Waynes remained out of practice as he goes through the concussion protocol. --The anticipated return of Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith from suspension initiated talk that cornerback Brandon Carr's streak of consecutive starts would end. That's not the case, although we don't know exactly how the Ravens will accommodate the continuation of the streak. Smith returned this week after being suspended for the first four games for violating the league's personal conduct policy. He started all 12 games in which he played last season, and Marlon Humphrey has been the starter at corner opposite Carr this season. The 32-year-old Carr has started 164 consecutive games, the longest streak among active defensive players, and defensive coordinator Don Martindale said it will be 165 on Sunday. How the Ravens will align their defense and work their substitution pattern to allow Carr to keep his streak going while still making use of Smith remains unknown. --Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen participated in practice on a limited basis for the first time since suffering a fractured foot in the season-opening game. The Panthers have already ruled him out for Sunday's game against the New York Giants, but Olsen said there is a chance he could play the following week. "I don't think it's out of the question," Olsen told ESPN.com. "If everyone, the doctors and I, feel like I'm ready I'm going to play. If I can play, I'm always going to err on the side of playing. But I want to be able to play and help the team."
