Lions WR Jones sits out practice

Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones (11) has five touchdown catches this season.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones (11) has five touchdown catches this season.
The Detroit Lions' once-formidable receiving corps is looking a bit shaky at the moment. Wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. did not practice for the second straight day as he tries to recover from a bone bruise in his knee. Jones has 35 receptions for 508 yards and five touchdowns this season. The five touchdown receptions lead the team, and he is second, behind Kenny Golladay, in receiving yards. Last season Jones had 61 catches for 1,101 yards and nine touchdowns. His status for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers will be determined on Friday, but he is considered questionable at the moment. The Lions lost their top receiver when Golden Tate was traded to Philadelphia, and if Jones cannot play Sunday, the Lions will face some problems. Golladay, who has 39 catches for 601 yards, both team highs, will be one starting wideout against the Panthers, but if Marvin Jones cannot play, the Lions likely will start T.J. Jones in his place. T.J. Jones has just six receptions for 61 yards this season., although he did have 30 catches for 399 yards last season. Tight end Michael Roberts and defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson also missed practice for Detroit. Roberts has a shoulder injury, and Robinson is dealing with an ankle problem.
