Collier came to Nebraska after two seasons at Florida, where he wasn’t able to carve out consistent playing time, redshirting as a freshman in 2021 and appearing in three games the next season.
He spent the spring adapting to a new defense while playing mostly safety, both at the free and boundary positions and has a chance to see the field despite being a mostly unknown commodity at the college level.
The Huskers will return most of their contributors in the secondary from a year ago, but a new system and coaching staff can help Collier carve out his role. There will be five defensive backs on the field — one more than last season.
Coach Matt Rhule and defensive coordinator Tony White have also made it clear they would like to liberally rotate players in and out of the secondary throughout games.
