See which Alabama football players made Phil Steele, Athlon and Lindy’s All-SEC teams

The 2023 Alabama football season is fast approaching. SEC Media Days begins Monday in Nashville before fall camp and the Crimson Tide’s Sept. 2 opener against Middle Tennessee State at Bryant-Denny Stadium. With the season so close, all the major preview magazines are on newsstands. Phil Steele, Lindy’s and Athon are all available and have all put together their preseason All-SEC teams. Here’s which Alabama players made the magazine lists. Which Alabama football players were named preseason All-SEC by Phil Steele, Lindy’s and Athlon Sports? Kool-Aid McKinstry McKinstry was the Tide’s most decorated player in the preseason magazines. He made first-team in Steele, Athlon and Lindy’s. The Birmingham native made both the Lindy’s and Phil Steele teams as both a cornerback and a punt returner. Will Reichard Reichard was another who all three lists agreed on. He was named the first-team kicker in each publication. He finished last season 22-of-26 on field goal attempts with his longest make coming from 52 yards. JC Latham Latham was yet another consensus first-teamer for Alabama. The tackle became a force in the SEC last season and will look to once again lead the way for the Crimson Tide’s front five. Along with McKinstry and linebacker Dallas Turner, Latham will represent Alabama at SEC Media Days starting Monday in Nashville. Dallas Turner The linebacker was named first-team All-SEC at his positon by both Lindy’s and Phil Steele. However, Athlon Sports dropped him to the second-team. LSU’s Harold Perkins Jr., Mississippi State’s Nathaniel Watson, Georgia’s Jamon Dumas-Johnson and Missouri’s Ty’Ron Hopper took up the first-team spots. Jermaine Burton Burton was a first-teamer in the eyes of Phil Steele. However, he didn’t appear on either Lindy’s or Athlon’s teams at all. The wideout had 40 catches for 677 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Jase McClellan The running back was named to Athlon and Phil Steele’s second-teams. He was not mentioned by Lindy’s McClellan finished second on the team in rushing last season with 655 yards and seven touchdowns, along with 112 yards and three scores in the passing game. Seth McLaughlin The center took over the starting job for the Tide last season, starting eight games. He and the rest of the Alabama offensive line allowed just 12 sacks all season. McLaughlin’s efforts were good enough to get him on Athlon’s second team. He was not included by Lindy’s or Phil Steele. Malachi Moore The defensive back was named to Lindy’s and Phil Steele’s second-teams, but was snubbed by Athlon. Moore had 31 tackles and five pass breakups for the Crimson Tide in 2022. Jaheim Oatis The defensive lineman was named freshman All-SEC by the conference’s coaches in 2022 and will be looking to follow it up with a stronger showing this season. He made Phil Steele’s second team. Ja’Corey Brooks The wide receiver was the only Alabama player on Athlon’s third team and Phil Steele’s fourth. He was not mentioned by Athlon. Brooks had 39 catches for 674 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022. Justin Elboigbe The defensive lineman only played in four games last season before a year-ending injury. He was named to Phil Steele’s third team. Deontae Lawson With just one starting linebacker returning from last season, Lawson will be looking to play a larger role for the Tide this season. He had 51 tackles in 2022. Lawson was named to Phil Steele’s third team.
