Pitt head football Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers are still working on the class of 2024 recruiting. 1

The next few weeks could be critical for Pitt football’s 2024 recruitment class to make significant progress in July. The Panthers landed nine commitments in June and increased their class size to 20 total commitments. But since June 30, Pitt hasn’t landed a single commitment. That hasn’t been without coming close on some prospects, including another four-star receiver who chose a different school Thursday afternoon. Keylen Adams, of Virginia Beach, Va., announced his commitment to Virginia Tech after naming Pitt as one of the final five schools he was considering during his recruitment process. A Pitt recruitment class that was ranked in the top 10 in the country by Rivals just weeks ago has now dropped to 23rd by Thursday. But that could change with a string of four-star prospects who could make their commitment decisions soon. That starts with offensive tackle Ryan Howerton, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect from Laurel, Md., who has announced his commitment decision to be made on Saturday. His final five schools include Pitt, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Howard. This Sept. 7, 2019, file photo shows the ACC logo atop the chain marker during the second half of an NCAA college football game between Duke and North Carolina A&T, in Durham, N.C. Christopher Carter CW Network acquires rights to air ACC football and basketball games through 2026-2027 Howerton has made four visits to Pitt, the most of any program that’s made him an offer, and his June 22nd visit to Pitt was his most recent with any program. Add in that Pitt’s won the most games in the past two years between the five programs, and there’s good reason to hope for Howerton’s commitment. Another four-star target for Pitt who is scheduled to announce in the coming weeks is wide receiver Zy’Marion Lang from Palmetto, Fla. Lang (6-3, 170) announced his commitment to be made public on July 30, with Pitt, Kansas State, South Carolina and South Florida as his final four schools. South Carolina will be a tough school for Pitt to beat, but Lang’s only two official visits were to Pitt and West Virginia. Two more four-star targets for Pitt who haven’t announced an official commitment date include 6-3 defensive end Sincere Edwards of Apopka, Fla., and 220-pound running back Yasin Willis of Montvale, N.J. Both recruits made visits during June at Pitt during the weeks of Steelers OTAs, where the Panthers showed off their shared facilities with Pittsburgh’s professional football team. Those visits also represent the last official visits for both prospects. Between defensive tackle Jahsear Whittington, wide receiver Ric’Darious Farmer and linebacker Cameron Lindsay, Pitt already has three different four-star prospects committed for its 2024 recruitment class. If Pitt were to land three of those remaining four different four-star prospects — and not lose any of their current commitments — it would represent the most four-star prospects to commit to a single class under Pat Narduzzi’s tenure, surpassing the five commitments Pitt landed in its 2016 class that featured Damar Hamlin.
