Wide receiver Hunter Rison dives to makes a catch for Michigan State against Penn State in a game in November.
Former Michigan State wide receiver Hunter Rison said over the weekend that he will transfer to Kansas State. Rison, the son of former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Andre Rison, announced Jan. 9 that he was leaving Michigan State after his freshman season in which he caught 19 passes for 224 yards. His reception total was fourth on the team. Rison's best game came in a 38-18 loss Notre Dame, when he recorded four receptions for 73 yards. "It's nothing against the program," Andre Rison, a former All-American at Michigan State, said in an interview on "The Drive with Jack" on 92.1 FM in Lansing, Mich. "It's just the system doesn't fit him and he doesn't fit the system, evidently, because he was told he could play one position and that was the slot, and he came in early and competed for it. "The one thing we're not afraid of is competition, but if say you're gonna try and find ways to get him on the field -- and I'm at every game and continue to watch, and I would never, ever tell Coach how to coach or do his job -- but I'm watching my son on the sidelines and it's third down and we got tight ends in the slot. I'm watching, it's a passing situation and we've got running backs at the wideout and my son is on the bench for three quarters." Rison, who will not be eligible to play in 2018, is the second Michigan State wide receiver to transfer this offseason. Trishton Jackson is heading for Syracuse. Two of Kansas State's top four receivers were sophomores in 2017. Isaiah Zuber led Kansas State with 51 receptions and caught four touchdown passes. Dalton Schoen caught 23 passes, including three for scores.
