Iowa State adds a state record-breaking running back and QB to the 2024 recruiting class

Matt Campbell's Class of 2024 recruiting haul received two more commitments within less than 24 hours. One was a running back. The other was a quarterback. Together, they're Iowa State's 10th and 11th commitments for a recruiting class shaping up to be pretty good. Running back recruit Dylan Lee has a lot in common with in-coming recruit Abu Sama. It’s almost like Campbell is seeking future tailbacks who break their respective state’s rushing records. The most recent is Lee, who posted on social media Sunday night that he had accepted an offer to join a growing 2024 recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder from Williams Field High School in Gilbert, Arizona, set a state Class 6A state record with 518 yards on 24 carries in a game last September. His big game included five touchdown runs, including breakaway scores covering 94, 84, 81 and 55 yards. He finished his junior season with 1,582 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns in 11 games. He averaged 7.1 yards per carry. Eventually, Lee will join Sama, a 2023 recruit who rushed for a state championship-game record 372 yards and six touchdowns for Southeast Polk in the 5A 2022 championship win against West Des Moines Valley. Lee, the first running back for the Cyclones' 2024 class, according to various recruiting websites, chose Iowa State over offers from such schools as Arizona State and Boise State. The quarterback is Deyon Batiste, who officially is classified as an “athlete.” He played for a high school in Cypress, Texas that featured a quarterback in multiple roles. The 6-4, 205-pounder, is the 11th known commitment for Iowa State’s next recruiting class.
