TCU wide receiver KaVontae Turpin (25) was dismissed from the team.
One day after being arrested for assault, TCU wide receiver KaVontae Turpin was dismissed from the team. Head coach Gary Patterson said Turpin has been kicked off the squad, the Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday. Turpin was second on the team in receptions (29), receiving yards (410) and receiving touchdowns (three). But he was even more important as a kick returner. He returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns this season, and his punt-return average of 19.4 yards per attempt is tied for the FBS lead. Turpin was arrested Sunday for assault with bodily harm of a family member. Police allege that Turpin dragged his girlfriend across a parking lot and slammed her to the ground at an apartment complex in Fort Worth on Saturday night. --Ohio State wide receiver Austin Mack will be sidelined indefinitely as he recovers from surgery on his left foot. Mack underwent surgery on his foot Monday, multiple media outlets reported. The junior's 26 receptions are good enough for third-best on the Buckeyes while his 331 yards receiving are the fourth highest on the team. He also has a touchdown catch. Mack had one catch for 24 yards in Ohio State's 49-20 loss to Purdue on Saturday before exiting the contest in the second half. He was spotted on crutches after the setback to the Boilermakers. --LSU will be without all-SEC linebacker Devin White for Saturday's game against Alabama when it was determined LSU had no grounds on which to appeal a controversial targeting call on White. "Discussions with the SEC made clear there is no process for appeal," LSU senior associate athletic director Robert Munson told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "The suspension will stand." In the second half of LSU's win over Mississippi State on Saturday, White was ejected after being called for targeting on Bulldogs quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. The controversial call of targeting was upheld upon review, which led to a GoFundMe page being created. Money donated to that site was scheduled to go toward erecting billboards around SEC headquarters in Birmingham, Ala., that were to carry the hashtag #FreeDevinWhite. It was an attempt to pressure the SEC to rescind the half-game suspension. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva put public pressure on the SEC to reverse the call.
