Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (13) has returned to spring practice on a limited basis.
Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis after missing time because of a hand injury. His father, Galu Tagovailoa, told KHON-TV in Hawaii that his son had suffered a "freak accident" on Tuesday and had surgery that night to repair a broken index finger on his left (throwing) hand. Tua Tagovailoa sustained the injury when he hit his hand on a teammate on Tuesday, according to his father. Tagovailoa is expected to wear a protective glove on his left hand after it heals, and, for now, he will only participate in non-contact drills. Galu Tagovailoa said he expects his son to be ready by the time Alabama plays its spring game on April 21, although Alabama has provided no timetable for his return to full participation. --Florida State wide receiver Nyqwan Murray sustained a slight meniscus tear and probably will miss the remainder of spring practice, first-year coach Willie Taggart said. Murray suffered the injury in a non-contact punt return drill on Wednesday and had to be assisted off the field. Murray led the Seminoles with 604 receiving yards last season. He also tied for top honors with 40 receptions to go along with his four receiving touchdowns in 2017. --Arizona State wide receiver John Humphrey will miss the entire 2018 season after new coach Herm Edwards confirmed that Humphrey sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon on Thursday. Humphrey was expected to be a starter for the Sun Devils next season. Humphrey sat out the 2016 season after transferring from Oklahoma, and he caught seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in Arizona State's 2017 season-opening win over New Mexico State. He finished the season with 13 catches for 177 yards and the one touchdown. Humphrey was scheduled to be a redshirt junior in 2018.
