CFB notebook: Colorado loses TE Poplawski for season
Colorado, which plays in the Pac-12, will not have tight end Jared Poplawski for the entire 2018 season after he sustained a torn labrum last week.
Colorado tight end Jared Poplawski will miss the entire 2018 season after sustaining a torn labrum last week.
Coach Mike MacIntyre confirmed that Poplawski suffered the injury during the final play of a practice session late last week, according to the Boulder Daily Camera. Poplawski underwent surgery on Tuesday.
Poplawski is no stranger to injuries, as he sustained a knee injury late last season and had been rehabbing a torn ACL this offseason.
Poplawski was limited to nine games played as a true freshman because of the torn ACL he suffered Nov. 11 against USC.
--Wisconsin senior Rafael Gaglianone has been cleared to resume kicking.
Gaglianone received the OK to return to workouts two weeks after he was ruled out indefinitely because of an injury to his kicking leg, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
The news came eight days before the Badgers are set to open the 2018 season against Western Kentucky on Aug. 31.
Gaglianone had been held out of practice for a number of days before he went on the injury list. He also was dealing with discomfort in his back at the time.
--Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was suspended for three games without pay after an investigation into what he knew about spousal abuse allegations against former assistant coach Zach Smith, the university announced Wednesday night.
Buckeyes athletic director Gene Smith was also suspended without pay from Aug. 31 to Sept. 16.
The announcement followed an 11-hour meeting by the Ohio State University Board of Trustees.
Meyer will miss the No. 5 Buckeyes' games against Oregon State, Rutgers and No. 16 TCU.
Ryan Day will continue to serve as interim coach, as he has done since Aug. 1, when Ohio State placed Meyer on paid administrative leave pending its investigation results.
Ohio State fired Smith on July 23, three days after he was served with a civil protection order on behalf of his ex-wife, Courtney Smith.
