Auburn Tigers wide receiver Eli Stove reportedly underwent surgery on March 13 for a torn ACL.
Auburn wide receiver Eli Stove's 2018 season is in doubt after he tore an ACL in spring practice, multiple media outlets reported. While the injury occurred prior to the school's spring break, 247Sports, citing a source, reported that Stove underwent surgery on March 13. Stove was working with the first-team offense during practice prior to his injury. Stove appeared in all 14 games as a sophomore last season, recording 29 receptions for 265 yards. He also was a threat out of the backfield with 30 rushes for 315 yards and two touchdowns. --Alabama suffered a key injury prior to taking the field for the start of spring practice on Tuesday. Matt Womack, the starting right tackle for last season's national champions, will miss all of spring practice due to a broken bone in his right foot, BamaOnline.com reported. The 6-foot-7, 324-pound Womack is expected to undergo surgery Wednesday. He was injured during workouts leading up to spring practice, according to the report. Womack started all 14 games last season during Alabama's run to a fifth national title in nine seasons. He is expected to be ready for practice in August. In the absence of Womack, sophomore Jedrick Wills is expected to work with the starting unit on the offensive line. --Florida Atlantic sophomore quarterback Chris Robison has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules, coach Lane Kiffin announced. Kiffin did not elaborate on the specific nature of the infraction involving Robison, who also violated team rules while with Oklahoma last August that ultimately led to his dismissal from the club. He transferred to Florida Atlantic and is competing with D'Andre Johnson for the starting role. "Chris has been suspended from all football activities for not doing things right off the field," Kiffin told reporters, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Obviously he hurt himself but he hurt his team. We tried to run basically two practices on two fields with only three quarterbacks." Robison was arrested and charged with public intoxication during his first season with the Sooners. --Tom Billings was promoted to defensive coordinator at Southern Mississippi, the Hattiesburg-American reported Tuesday. Billings, who served as assistant head coach/safeties coach for the past two seasons, replaces Tony Pecoraro after he moved to Florida Atlantic to take the same job. Although he hadn't served as a defensive coordinator since 1999 with Marshall, Billings has more than 35 years of coaching experience. Head coach Jay Hopson also made a number of other moves, switching defensive line coach Derek Nicholson to linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator. Murray State defensive coordinator Chris Boone is expected to replace Nicholson, the newspaper reported. Other coaching moves announced by the school Tuesday were the additions of Brock Hays as tight ends coach, Eddie Hicks as cornerbacks coach and Les Koenning as running backs coach. --Jake Peetz, who two months ago was expected to become the Indianapolis Colts' offensive coordinator, has taken a job as an offensive analyst at Alabama, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported. Peetz was in line to be the Colts' offensive coordinator under head coach Josh McDaniels. But when McDaniels pulled out of his agreement to coach the Colts and returned to the New England Patriots, Peetz was left out of the picture. Rapoport also reported that Peetz is likely to be back in the NFL soon. Peetz, 34, was an offensive assistant for the Crimson Tide in during the 2013 season. He took a job on the Washington Redskins' staff in 2014, and had been on the Oakland Raiders' staff from 2015 until he took this job with Alabama. He was the Raiders' quarterbacks coach this past season.
