Pair of Indiana football players leave the program ahead of fall camp
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana football coach Tom Allen shared some roster updates on Tuesday during his virtual press conference previewing fall camp.
According to Allen, wide receiver David Baker signed a medical hardship waiver and offensive lineman Cam Knight has retired from football.
The medical hardship waiver allows an athlete to retain their scholarship without counting against the team's 85-player limit.
Both Indianapolis-area natives were part of a 2020 signing class that only has three players still on the roster (Dexter Williams II, Kahlil Benson and Bryson Bonds).
Baker missed the 2022 season with an undisclosed injury and it was the second straight season he didn't get into a game. His lone appearance for the Hoosiers came during his freshman year during the 2020 season.
The former three-star prospect out of Scecina Memorial High School didn't record any statistics.
Knight, who was a three-star signee out of Noblesville High School, followed in his older brother Brandon's footsteps in coming to Indiana. Brandon was an offensive lineman for the program from 2015-18 and spent three years in the NFL.
Cam Knight played in three games after redshirting in 2020 and earned Academic Big Ten honors in 2021.
The good news for Indiana is that the departures come at positions where they have strong depth numbers-wise. The Hoosiers have 10 scholarship receivers and 15 scholarship offensive lineman to open fall camp and the majority of those players are full-go.
