Indiana football: New contract details for offseason hires, returning assistants

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football coach Tom Allen’s on-field assistant coaches will make just shy of $4.7 million dollars in 2023.
The university provided the contracts of Allen’s three offseason hires to The Herald-Times in response to a public records request.
Co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Matt Guerrieri will make $575,000 ($400,000 base salary and $175,000 in outside, marketing and promotional income), run game coordinator and offensive line coach Bob Bostad will make $650,000 ($400,000 base salary) and wide receivers coach Anthony Tucker will make $425,000 ($350,000 base salary).
They all signed two-year deals.
Indiana also provided the contracts for Indiana’s returning staff members that show running backs coach Craig Johnson, defensive line coach Paul Randolph and special teams coordinator Kasey Teegardin had their deals renewed this year and extended through 2025.
That automatic renewal clause is included in each staff member’s contract. The clause extends each assistant’s deal every year based on “satisfactory performance” as determined by Allen and athletic director Scott Dolson.
The only coaches that have deals that expire at the end of this season are offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Walt Bell (Dec. 31, 2023) and linebackers coach Chad Wilt (Jan. 15, 2024). Cornerbacks coach Brandon Shelby’s contract runs through the end of the academic year (June 30, 2024).

Indiana’s newest assistants all have a similar bonus structures that pay out:
$20,000 if the team wins six games
Guerrieri can make an additional $25,000 for each of the following benchmarks: Indiana allows 14 or less points in at least 60 percent of its games, it ranks in the top third of the Big Ten in average points allowed per game, ranks in the top third of the Big Ten in average yards allowed per game and/or ranks in the top third of the Big Ten in red zone defense.
The assistants also receive courtesy cars, money for moving expenses and an annual adidas product allowance of $2,000. Bostad will get six complimentary football season tickets (with two parking passes) and two complimentary season tickets for the men’s basketball team (with one parking pass).
