Redshirt junior Thaiu Jones-Bell is no longer listed on Alabama’s 2023 football roster. The change comes as fall camp opened on Thursday.
According to UA coach Nick Saban, Jones-Bell will take a “medical” this year. The designation is similar to a redshirt, in which a player is unavailable but retains a year of eligibility.
Jones-Bell, from Hallandale, Fla., appeared in four games last year for the Tide. He recorded his lone reception for 5 yards against Vanderbilt. He also played snaps against Utah State, Louisiana-Monroe and in the Sugar Bowl versus Kansas State.
In his career, Jones-Bell made four catches for 19 yards and no touchdowns across 12 games. Thursday’s discrepancy was first noted by 247Sports’ Mike Rodak.
Jones-Bell was listed on the A-Day roster as one of eight upperclassmen receivers. When the Tide and the rest of the Southeastern Conference provided their rosters at media days two weeks ago, Jones-Bell was still there.
Jones-Bell was listed at 6-foot, 198 pounds by the Tide. He was a four-star recruit and the No. 143 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. Jones-Bell was one of three receivers in the class of 2020. Both Javon Baker (UCF) and Traeshon Holden (Oregon) are no longer with the program.
