4-star edge joins twin brother in Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class

His twin brother joined him in the Wolverines’ 2024 recruiting class on Thursday afternoon. Jacob Smith announced his commitment to Michigan via social media, choosing Jim Harbaugh’s program over other finalists Nebraska, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Alabama and Georgia. The 6-foot-4 ½-inch, 230-pounder racked up 28 reported offers and is ranked, per the 247Sports Composite index, as the No. 211 overall prospect nationally – 16 spots ahead of Jerod. Jacob was offered by Michigan in February 2022 and took two visits to Ann Arbor last month – including one official. While is brother decided to shut down his recruitment this spring, Jacob continued to explore other options. He also took an official visit to Nebraska, which was viewed as the Wolverines’ top competition. With Jacob joining the class, Michigan’s edge recruiting is likely done for this cycle. It has four players at the position now committed: four-star Elias Rudolph (No. 292 overall prospect), four-star Devon Baxter (No. 393) and four-star Dominic Nichols (No. 447). Michigan now has 26 commitments in the 2024 class, which is tied with Georgia for the second-most in the country. It sits No. 4 in the national rankings.
