He now enters his freshman season with a leg up on those joining the team in the summer, more time on a college strength and conditioning program — he said after the spring game he had put on about 15 pounds since arriving on campus — and a chance to be an immediate contributor. New defensive coordinator Tony White wants Nebraska’s line to be fluid and flexible in his 3-3-5 scheme, and he singled out the four-star recruit from Austin, Texas as someone who impressed as a pass rusher in the spring. Umanmielen spent time at linebacker but is more likely to see the bulk of his snaps in the trenches.
