Trieu: A look at 4 uncommitted football recruits who will visit Michigan this weekend
8 hours ago There are two weekends left before the recruiting dead period begins, which gives Michigan and other college programs two more groups of official visitors. Last weekend’s officials produced good results for the Wolverines, as defensive tackle Owen Wafle committed and there was reportedly positive momentum with defensive end Elias Rudolph, athlete Boo Carter, and cornerback Bryce West. The Wolverines remain in strong position for other visitors like running back Micah Kaapana and are issuing a strong challenge for five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo. This weekend, Michigan will have many of its commits in town for their officials, but there are also four uncommitted players who will be there with them. ▶ Aaron Scott, CB, Springfield (Ohio): This is turning into one of the more interesting recruiting races to follow. Michigan has made a lot of progress, but Ohio State and Oregon are formidable opponents here. The belief is the Wolverines are neck and neck with the Buckeyes, who get his final official. Oregon was the school he loved growing up, but there is a proximity advantage for the Buckeyes and Wolverines. Scott is a high four-star cover man with length and speed. ▶ Michael Uini, OT, Copperas Cove (Texas): Uini is a top-10 offensive tackle in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. He has an Alabama official set for fall though, so a decision is not likely before then. He already has been to Clemson and Florida, and will get to Georgia next weekend. In-state Texas rounded out his top six along with those schools. The Wolverines are the lone northern school he is considering, so while that is a positive sign, this will be a battle for Michigan. Uini is a 6-foot-7, 290-pound prototype physical specimen for the position. Belleville running back Jeremiah Beasley cuts through the defense on the way to a rushing touchdown during the second half. Jeremiah Beasley, a linebacker/running back from Belleville, will visit Michigan this weekend. ADAM SHEEHAN, SPECIAL TO THE DETROIT NEWS ▶ Jeremiah Beasley, LB, Belleville: This feels like an important visit for the Wolverines. Michigan leads on Beasley’s Crystal Ball, but he had a good official with Michigan State, where older brother Maliq Carr plays, last weekend and he heads to Missouri at the end of the month. It’s the Tigers who have been rising and are now a legitimate threat to the in-state programs. Michigan still has a lot going for them in this recruitment, but it has turned into a hotly-contested three-way race. On the field, Beasley is an athletic linebacker who was also a standout tailback for the Tigers’ state championship team last fall. ▶ Devon Baxter, edge, Brandywine (Maryland) Gwynn Park: Baxter is a long 6-foot-6, 225-pound pass-rusher who took an official to Rutgers last weekend and is also visiting Virginia Tech next weekend. Michigan offered Baxter in February and insiders say the Wolverines are serious about their interest in Baxter. He had 21 tackles for loss in just seven games as a junior. He also contributed four touchdown receptions as a tight end on offense and plays basketball as well. He is athletic with tremendous upside. The Michigan offensive line class will be on their officials and recruiting Uini. That includes Andrew Sprague, Blake Frazier, Luke Hamilton, Ben Roebuck and Jake Guarnera. Defensive lineman Ted Hammond also will be on his official. St. Clair is a four-star junior-to-be who is emerging as one of the best quarterbacks in his class. An athletic 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect, St. Clair passed for 2,453 yards and 25 touchdowns to four interceptions last fall. Ohio State, Michigan State, LSU, Alabama and others recently have offered.
