Nebraska defensive back Myles Farmer enters transfer portal
Omaha World-Herald
A Nebraska starting safety for the last season and a half has entered the transfer portal.
Myles Farmer is no longer with the team as it continued with its first week of fall camp Wednesday. The Atlanta native started 11 games last season and was NU’s second-leading tackler with 73.
Coach Matt Rhule on Monday said Farmer was suspended by the team because of a series of minor rules violations and that his return was a wait-and-see proposition.
“I love Myles; he’s a competitive kid,” Rhule said. “It’s so hard when you have a new coach, right? They have different standards than you’re used to. So I get that. We’ve been patient with a lot of guys. We’ll see what happens with Myles. The ball’s in his court. We’d love for him to be here, but whatever he wants to do, I respect him as a man. So whatever he wants to do, I understand.”
Farmer was an under-recruited three-star prospect in the 2019 class who finishes his Nebraska career with 110 tackles and four interceptions in 31 games. He became a part-time starter in 2021 and a full-time one last season. He missed the 2022 Michigan game serving a suspension after being ticketed in early November on suspicion of DUI.
Safety — and the secondary in general — figures to be a strength for Nebraska this season. It returns starting cornerbacks Malcolm Hartzog and Quinton Newsome along with “rover” Isaac Gifford and Marques Buford, a season-long starter who is still recovering from a knee injury suffered last year but should return to action soon. Other candidates to play include Tommi Hill, Omar Brown, Corey Collier, Phalen Sanford and Javier Morton.
