Meet the Mid: Senior Raider Chaisen Buckner

Name: Chaisen Buckner Nickname: Buck Year: Senior Position: Raider Height: 6'2" Weight: 230 Hometown: Chatsworth, Ga. High School: North Murray Major: Weapons, Robotics & Control Engineering What do you want to do after graduation and why? I want to be a Marine ground officer; however, I'm not sure which MOS I would like to do in the Corps. I love the culture of the Marine Corps as it resembles that of Navy Football. I also think the Marines are an elite group of warfighters. Why did you choose Navy? I felt that Navy gave me the best opportunity to continue my football career at a high level and set me up for success for the rest of my life. I also loved the coaches and felt like they genuinely cared about me and wanted me to be a part of their program. What would you tell somebody that is considering coming to Navy to play football? Do it. You won't regret it. It's a really tough school to be at, especially for somebody trying to play a high level division 1 sport, but all of the tough times make you better as a person and player. I've learned a ton of valuable life lessons in my three years thus far. Our coaches are fantastic as well and will help develop you into a better player. If you could play another position, what position would you play and why? Tight End. I used to play it in high school and enjoyed the combo of run blocking and running routes in the pass game. If you could choose any opponent for Navy to play that is currently not on the schedule, who would you choose and why? I would love to play Georgia in Athens. I grew up a Georgia fan and my good friend Ladd McConkey (#84) plays receiver for the Dawgs. I think it would be cool to play against my favorite team and friend in my home state. Favorite class at the Naval Academy and why? Introduction to Robotic Systems (EW450). We got to learn about some fundamentals of robotics and learned how to use and program a robotic arm for our lab exercises. Hardest class at the Naval Academy and why? Guided Design Experience (EW309). We had to program and fully automate a NERF turret system to fire at desired targets with minimal assistance from the instructor. Favorite teacher at the Naval Academy and why? Professor Devries. He is a great teacher and has helped me many times outside of class. Favorite form of social media and why? Twitter. I enjoy the format of the app and the sports content on it. Favorite person to follow on social media and why? Tyler Larson (@musiciswin). I'm a big music/guitar nerd, so I enjoy his guitar lessons and content. If you could have dinner with any 4 people at the Naval Academy who would you choose?: Jordan Sanders, James Perkins, Kenny McShan, Daniel Jones Favorite sport to follow at the Naval Academy outside of football and why? Basketball, because I love watching the sport and used to play in high school. If you didn't play football at Navy, what sport would you play and why? Either basketball or rugby. Rugby has many similarities to football and a lot of my friends play. What song is playing on your headphones in the locker room right before taking the field? "Nightrain" by Guns 'N Roses What is your dream vacation? All inclusive vacation to Hawaii How many teams should make the FBS Playoffs? 8 What is the best thing about being in the American Athletic Conference? Getting to play high caliber teams and talent on a weekly basis. We have to play our best every week to win games. Favorite Coach Newberry Saying: The way we're going to win is with effort, consistency and execution. How would you describe Coach Chesnut's Offense: Fast, Physical, Innovative How would you describe Coach Volker's Defense: Elite E.A.T. (effort, attitude and toughness) & Execution One word to describe a Navy Football player: Resilient Who will be the surprise player on offense in 2023?
