Texas makes up ground with key targets after a huge recruiting weekend

June 18, 2023 6:19 pm CT The Texas Longhorns’ 2024 recruiting class looks like it’s about to take off in the coming months. Four-star cornerback Santana Wilson got the weekend off to a strong start with the Longhorns’ fourth commitment of the cycle. Texas appears to be in solid standing with several other recruits. Namely, offensive tackle Brandon Baker, edge rusher Danny Okoye, running back Jerrick Gibson and wide receiver Aeryn Hampton appear to trend closer to the Longhorns. There looks to be a strong push for several Arizona players after adding Wilson from Scottsdale. Edge rusher Deshawn Warner and running back Christian Clark enjoyed their time on the Forty Acres this weekend after Texas made them feel at home. Here’s a few glimpses at where the team stands with some key targets right now. Warner’s decision appears imminent. Texas looks to stand atop his list. In addition to pulling in a big commitment, the Longhorns are doing well to continue to strengthen their ties to Arizona. Texas fans are getting comfortable with having an elite left tackle like Kelvin Banks on campus. Logically, those who follow the team are looking ahead to who will be next in line at one of football’s most important positions. Baker stands as the heir apparent to Banks should he choose the Longhorns. Christian Clark Four-star RB Christian Clark about his Texas official visit: "It was just a great time all around." If you don’t view Clark as a huge priority for the 2024 class, you’re kidding yourself. The Arizona back is a tremendous player and one the Longhorns need to close on for the 2024 class. Danny Okoye Tulsa is Oklahoma Sooners territory, so it would be unwise for Texas fans to raise their hopes too high. After losing out on top defensive lineman Xadavien Sims from Durant (Oklahoma), one would assume the Sooners would go all out for Okoye. Even so, Texas appears to have made a strong impression this weekend. Myles Davis NEW — ‘24 Converse (Texas) Judson safety, @On3Recruits four-star Myles Davis recaps his Texas official visit and has a commitment date. Today’s recruits have a high opinion of safeties coach Blake Gideon. That bodes well for the future of recruiting at the position. Gideon isn’t yet the ace recruiter his fellow secondary coach and presumed mentor Terry Joseph is, but he’s doing a great job on the recruiting trail. Aeryn Hampton Hampton’s decision is quickly approaching, and his words indicate that Texas is toward the top of his list. Texas could make use of his versatility should he choose the Longhorns.
