HISTORY

2022 SEASON:

• A first-team All-ACC performer.

• Rated the top offensive guard in the ACC by PFF.

• Also named a midseason All-American by The Athletic.

• An Academic All-ACC performer as well. 

• Starting left guard who was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. He missed spring practice while waiting on that decision.

• Left the Syracuse game with an eye injury.

2021 SEASON:

• Suffered a back injury and missed the last seven games of the season after undergoing surgery.

• The Wolfpack averaged 172 rushing yards per game when he played, 93.1 ypg after he was knocked out. 

• Tallied 10 knockdown blocks in the win over Furman - he earned ACC Player of the Week honors for that performance.

• Transfer from Fairmont State, he arrived in Raleigh in June of 2021 and worked his way to starter.

 

AT FAIRMONT STATE:

• Two-year starter at left guard at Fairmont State, he played in 23 games between 2017-19, starting 20.

• Honors: Was also named to the President’s list and honors for academics. In 2019, earned first-team All-MEC and Don Hansen Super Region 1 honors for the second-consecutive season. Was also a second-team all-region selection. In 2018, earned honorable mention All-America honors from Don Hansen Gazette, the first offensive lineman from Fairmont State to do so since 1994. Also named All-MEA first-team and All-Super 1 Region second-team honors.

• 2020 at Fairmont State: Team did not have a fall season.

• 2019 at Fairmont State: Started all 10 games at left guard. Fairmont State ranked in the top-20 nationally in both total offense (13th) and scoring offense (20th).

• 2018 at Fairmont State: Started 11 games at left guard, as Fairmont State ranked 23rd nationally in rushing offense and 14th in scoring offense. Helped lead his team to a 9-2 record.

• 2017 at Fairmont State: Played in three games as a freshman.

 

PERSONAL

• Father, Demetrio Zavala, is a chef who is a two-time Chopped champion.

• Played just one year of high school football. Gained 60 lbs. between his freshman and sophomore year in college.
