Isaiah Lewis

First-team All-Big Ten selection in 2013, Lewis posted 58 tackles in 13 games and tied for second on the team with 10 passes defended, including two interceptions and eight pass break-ups. A compact, fluid athlete and good open-field tackler, Lewis is at his best closing on plays in front of him, but also has the natural ball skills to be a consistent factor in the passing game. His size and range limitations over the top may leave him off NFL boards until the later rounds and earn a tweener label.

strengths

Compact, well-built frame. Quick to read run, attacking the line of scrimmage and showing burst, agility and body control to adjust to make the effective open-field tackle. Takes out the legs of bigger ballcarriers, ripping through at the knees. A bit high in his backpedal but covers ground efficiently. Smooth turning motion and accelerates without downshifting. Plays the ball in the air with good timing on his leap and effective hand-eye coordination to knock the ball away from the receiver.

weaknesses

Lacks ideal size for the position. More finesse than physical as a tackler and doesn't face up and driving to the turf. Struggles to locate the ball, turning his back to the quarterback. Lacks the closing speed to recover when beaten initially.
