Mykel Williams
OVERVIEW
Mykel Williams is a blue-chip EDGE prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft. He brings prototypical size, length, and athleticism that NFL teams covet. His tape shows a high motor and the ability to set the edge effectively in the run game. Williams' versatility to play multiple spots along the defensive front makes him scheme versatile, whether in a 4-3 or 3-4 alignment. Williams needs to clean up some technical aspects of his game. His hand placement and pad level need refinement to maximize his power and leverage against NFL offensive linemen. At times, his get-off can be inconsistent, which limits his pass-rush impact. Overall, Williams has the tools to be a high-impact player in the NFL. His combination of size, athleticism, and raw power provides a strong foundation. With time and development, he has the potential to be a perennial Pro Bowler and a cornerstone for an NFL defense.
BACKGROUND
Williams, from Columbus, Georgia, attended Hardaway High School. In his senior season, Williams recorded 81 total tackles, including 20.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks. He was a consensus five-star recruit, ranked among the top defensive linemen nationally. Williams played Pop Warner football, basketball, and wrestling before focusing on football. At the University of Georgia, Williams earned First Team Freshman All-America by The Athletic and Coaches’ SEC All-Freshman Team honors in 2022. He played in 15 games, recording 28 total tackles, three sacks, and a team-high 31 QB hurries. In 2023, he earned Coaches All-SEC Second Team honors, with 18 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in 13 games. His performance in the Orange Bowl included a sack, forced fumble, and pass breakup. Williams played multiple positions on the defensive line during his college career. His accolades include being on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List and the Lombardi Award Watch List.

Versatile defender, capable of playing multiple positions on the line Strong run defender with the ability to leverage and shed blockers High football IQ, consistently making smart plays. High-character player with a great work ethic, active in the community. Proven track record of high-level production in college games. Exceptional pass-rush technique and power beyond his years
CONS
Struggles with pad level consistency, impacting drive sustainability Needs to add more mass to better handle combo blocks Hand precision on swim moves needs improvement for better block shedding Did not explode off the snap as expected for a top recruit Tends to work himself too upright, losing leverage in power moves
