Dalton Schultz

TE · Stanford
Since becoming Stanford’s head coach, David Shaw has produced four tight ends drafted in the first rounds of the NFL Draft: Coby Fleener, Zach Ertz, Levine Toilolo and Austin Hooper. And Schultz could be the fifth. A two-year starter for the Cardinals, Schultz lined up inline, wing and in the slot and was groomed in Shaw’s pro-style offense. Before moving to tight end in high school, Schultz was raised as an offensive lineman and that competitive mentality is evident, but his limited inline power and hip snap hurt his sustain skills. Although he was underutilized as a pass-catcher in the Cardinal run-first attack (never finished better than fifth on the team in catches in a season), he has dependable ball skills to finish in a crowd. BACKGROUND A four-star tight end recruit out of high school, Schultz helped lead Bingham to an undefeated 2013 season (14-0) and 5A state title with 31 catches for 512 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior. Considered the top recruit in Utah and a top-three tight end in the 2014 cycle, Schultz committed to Stanford over offers from Notre Dame, Utah and a dozen others. After redshirting in 2014, he was the back-up tight end behind Austin Hooper as a redshirt freshman, posting 10 catches for 121 yards and one touchdown in 2015. Schultz became the full-time starter as a sophomore in 2016 and finished with career-bests in catches (23) and receiving yards (222), earning All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention honors. He started 13 games as a junior in 2017 and recorded 22 receptions for 212 yards and three touchdowns, earning First Team All-Pac 12 honors. ...
