A four-star quarterback recruit out of high school, Williams committed to North Carolina over Michigan, Florida, Stanford and others. After sharing the starting duties as a sophomore, he became the full-time starter as a junior and set several school records, including total yards of offense, although he re-broke several of those marks in 2015. Williams leaves Chapel Hill with the school record for touchdowns responsible for (99 - 61 passing, 35 rushing, three receiving).
he has adequate arm strength with a smooth release to test throws downfield, although his vision is much better as a runner than passer. williams has the foot quicks, core strength and instincts of a running back to escape pressure and create on his own. however as a passer, his sloppy body rhythm and mechanics lead to accuracy and timing issues. williams will throw a strike downfield, but then follow up with a poor decision or sporadic throw, lacking the consistency the next level requires.
