He capped a brilliant high school career as the state record holder with 174 converted PAT in his stint at Springdale High School. He was a three-year starter for teams that posted a combined record of 32-5. He landed 80 percent of his career kickoffs in the end zone. As a senior, he was a member of The Associated Press Arkansas Super Team and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas team at place-kicker for Coach Kevin Johnson. The Morning News All-Area selection made 7-of-17 field goal attempts on the season, including a school-record 55-yard field goal. Seven of his 10 misses came from 47 yards and beyond including six attempts from 56 yards or more. He set a new school record when he converted eight extra points in a game. During his high school career, he converted a state record 174-of-184 extra point attempts. As a junior, he was 84-of-89 on PAT and 2-of-3 on field goal attempts including converting on a 55-yard field goal. Tejeda was 7-of-14 on field goal attempts with a long of 47 yards in his sophomore season. He was perfect on 66 PAT and landed 75 percent of his kickoffs in the end zone. He also played soccer for Springdale High School as a prepster. He suffered dislocations of his left kneecap while playing soccer as a sophomore and a junior. He began playing football and place-kicking in the ninth grade. Hawgs Illustrated rated him as the No. 10 overall prospect in Arkansas. Rivals.com ranked him as the No. 20 kicker in the nation. The outlet also ranked him as the No. 20 prospect in Arkansas and named him a member of the HawgSports.com Natural 21 at No. 10. He chose Arkansas over LSU, Ole Miss, Nebraska and Vanderbilt.
