2022 NOTABLES: Kancey earned Unanimous All-America status as he was a first-team selection by each of the NCAA's five recognized selectors…he became the Panthers’ first Unanimous All-American since defensive tackle Aaron Donald in 2013…in 133 seasons of intercollegiate football, Pitt players earned Unanimous All-America recognition only 15 times (13 total players have achieved this distinction)…Kancey was the only player in the country to be selected a 2022 finalist for both the Outland Trophy (nation’s best interior lineman) and Bronko Nagurski Trophy (national defensive player of the year)…named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, becoming only the second Pitt player to earn the ACC’s top defensive honor (joining Donald, who was honored in 2013)…Kancey was also named first team All-ACC for the second consecutive season.
2022 STATISTICS: Started 11 regular-season games at defensive tackle, missing two contests (Miami and the Sun Bowl against UCLA) due to injury…compiled 31 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks…led the nation’s interior defenders with 14.5 TFLs (1.32 per game)…had a career-high 3.5 sacks at Virginia and was named ACC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week…twice notched a career-high 3.5 TFLs (Virginia and Georgia Tech)…his Georgia Tech performance made him the highest graded defensive tackle of the week by Pro Football Focus.
2021: Started all 14 games at defensive tackle…first team All-ACC…third team Associated Press All-American…paced Pitt in tackles for loss (13) and ranked second in sacks (seven)…had 35 total tackles and added a forced fumble on the year…had a career-high six tackles with a sack against North Carolina…totaled four stops—including a season-high three TFLs—against Virginia…had 1.5 sacks against the Cavaliers…had four tackles and an eight-yard sack against Massachusetts and was named to the Pro Football Focus National Team of the Week…had three stops, a TFL and forced fumble against Clemson.
2020: Played in all 11 games, starting four in his first fully active season…starting assignments came in each of the final four contests…named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Rivals and The Athletic…totaled 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks…had a season-high five stops with one TFL against Notre Dame…had four tackles, including 2.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks against Syracuse…had four stops at Clemson.
2019: Made his lone appearance in the Quick Lane Bowl victory over Eastern Michigan, preserving a redshirt.
HIGH SCHOOL: First-team All-Florida Class 6A defensive lineman for powerhouse Miami Northwestern…helped team to back-to-back Florida 6A state championships…the Bulls went a combined 23-8 his final two seasons and played in the 2017 GEICO State Champions Bowl against Chandler (Ariz.)…compiled more than 200 tackles as a junior and senior…had 110 tackles his senior year and 98 stops as a junior…rated one of the nation’s top 45 defensive tackle prospects by Rivals…played under Coach Max Edwards.
