Chris Boswell

A four-year performer in charge of the kicking duties for the Owls, Boswell is just the second player in school history to top 300 points in a career, finishing with 358 total points scored. He was a consistent long field goal kicker over his career with 13 made field goals of at least 50 yards and three longer than 55 yards. Boswell set the single-season Rice record for made field goals (23) in 2012, which tied him for sixth nationally.

strengths

Strong leg with NFL long distance range. Displays proper technique and body fluidity to plant and drive his lower body. Booming leg strength on kickoffs as well with 54 touchbacks on 70 kickoffs. Creative with onside kick attempts with the foot quickness to deceive return teams. Accurate leg on kicks under 40 yards. Has shown clutch ability late in games.

weaknesses

Placement can be streaky on kicks of 40+, connecting on 53.3% of his attempts in 2013 (6-for-9 40+ and 2-for-6 50+). Has a wiry, lean frame and lacks ideal size for the position. Needs to stay focused and show a shorter memory after missed kicks. Not truly accustomed to consistently playing in cold weather as a lifelong Texan.
