Dan Buenning

OG · Wisconsin
Positives...Has a big frame with a thick chest, wide hips and thighs and firm overall body mass with a frame that can carry additional bulk...Compliant sort that loves to be physical on the field and served as team captain...Competes until the whistle and is a natural knee bender with very good lateral agility...Has the leg drive to clear the rush lanes and shows good hand placement to mirror...Alert picking up stunts and blitzes, getting good position to sustain...Works well in concert with the center on combo blocks and shows a quick kick slide in his pass set...Has enough quickness and movement to get out in front on short pulls...While not as quick on double moves, he does show the lateral agility to pull to the outside...Has outstanding toughness and a competitive nature...Shows good playing strength and adequate explosion off the snap...Uses his hands to get decent placement, but is more effective when he uses his punch to jolt...His lateral moves allow him to pick up the blitz and stunts in pass protection...More of a plodder for the running game, but has the leg drive to work for position...Better on the short pull to the front side than when working as a trap blocker off tackle...In the run game, he is a good technician who comes off the ball well with some quickness to position and play with good leverage and hand usage...Generally effective when angle blocking and walling off, as he does a good job staying with his blocks...Shows the athletic ability and feet to adjust in space to pick up his blocks...In the passing game, he has good set quickness and the ability to slide in a small area, as he is effective to lock on and mirror. Negatives...Lacks consistent pop and is not a good trap blocker...Has just an adequate anchor and will give up ground vs. the bull rush...Loses some quickness on the move, but compensates by taking good blocking angles...Strong, but needs to generate more power behind his hand punch...Will over-extend and lose balance when he gets too anxious coming off the snap...Struggles with the double move, as he bends more at the waist than with his knees...Needs to show better hand extension to sustain and control...When pulling from the back side, he will get caught in traffic and this prevents him from getting to the point of attack, as he pulls too flat and gets swallowed ...Needs to do a better job of extending his arms on the move, as defenders slip off some of his blocks when working in space....When he operates away from the line of scrimmage, he gets too narrow in his base and loses his balance.
