Jahmile Addae
positives
Has a thick frame with a tight waist, good bubble and good overall muscle tone...Has good short area coverage skills, using his hands effectively in attempts to reroute the tight end...Makes proper reads most of the time to take a short path to the ball by using proper angles...Reacts quickly to plays in front of him and gets good depth in his pass drops playing in the zone...Makes up for a lack of speed by using his range to close on the ball in a hurry...Effective wrap-up tackler who knows how to keep his shoulders square while staying low in his pads to collide with ball carriers in run support...Has adequate leaping ability, timing his jumps to attack the ball at its high point...Physical open field tackler who times his hits and attacks hard with his hands to try and force the turnover...Has a knack for avoiding blockers when working in the box.
negatives
Could stand to lose about 10 pounds to improve his adequate foot speed and burst...Smart player vs. the pass, but will bite on fakes and play action at times...Lacks the burst and acceleration to stay with receivers in man coverage...Struggles to break cleanly out of his backpedal due to hip stiffness and takes false steps while looking choppy moving his feet in transition...Can make the interception at times, but does not have natural hands...Does not have the recovery speed when caught out of position...Not a viable alternative on the blitz, as he does not have the explosion to close from the back side...Does a good job of avoiding blockers on the move, but if a lineman gets a piece of him, Addae is quickly neutralized...Does not turn cleanly out of his breaks...Good in run support, but is too one-dimensional because of his poor timed speed to be an every-down player...Has some durability issues (spinal contusion, concussion, left shoulder) and also suffers from asthma, which could pose problems in thin air conditions.
2001: Struggled in August camp with the weather conditions due to a bout with asthma. 2002: Suffered a spinal contusion and a concussion in August camp (8/15) that would sideline him for two weeks of scrimmages. 2003: Underwent minor left shoulder surgery in April...Re-injured the shoulder vs. Wisconsin and underwent surgery prior to the Maryland game, missing the final 10 games. 2005: Suffered a right ankle sprain vs. East Carolina (9/24).
