Jordan Howard

The UAB transfer finished second in the Big Ten in 2015, averaging 134.8 rushing yards per game. In the six games that he tallied at least 20 carries in 2015, Howard averaged 181.2 yards per game, including a personal-best 238 rushing yards against Michigan's top-five nationally ranked defense. He finished the season with 1,213 rushing yards on 196 carries and nine touchdowns, adding 11 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. After UAB initially decided to drop football, Howard transferred to Bloomington, Ind., and was eligible immediately. He took over for Tevin Coleman, who rushed for an Indiana school record 2,036 yards in 2014. Coleman also skipped his senior season and was drafted in the third round by the Atlanta Falcons in 2015. If Howard is drafted on Day 2, it will mark the first time in program history two Hoosiers' running backs were drafted in the top 100 in back-to-back years.

Production inflated by Indiana's scheme and underrated talent, including a gifted offensive line which often provided clear rushing lanes to exploit. Lacks the preferred burst to break away in the open field and is generally a one-speed runner, overall.

strengths

Powerfully-built with his weight evenly distributed throughout his frame, Howard isn't shy about lowering his pads and finishing runs, consistently getting extra yardage after contact. He initiates contact and keeps his legs driving through it, showing the determined running style of a bell-cow NFL back.

howard is arguably one of the five-best running backs in the 2016 class, but he missed four games in 2015 and parts of several others due to injuries. although his medical reports will be a strong part of his pro evaluation, howard is a day 2 draft pick based on talent.

faster on the field than he'll likely test, accelerating to top speed quickly to throw off pursuit angles. good vision, balance and surprising lateral agility for a back of his size, making him difficult for defenders to line up. strings together his cuts to follow blocks and weave through different levels of the defense, not allowing arm tackles to slow him down.

Only caught 11 passes in 2015, but flashes soft hands and body control to handle more duties at the next level. Alert and willing in pass protection.
