Recent Isaac Seumalo Notes
Isaac Seumalo
in our view
A three-year starter at Oregon State, Seumalo was one of the highest-rated recruits to enroll at Oregon State and looked like a future early round NFL Draft pick at center prior to his foot injury - returned healthy in 2015 and moved to guard and tackle. A true technician, he is built low to the ground with flexible knees and natural balance to win reps due to fundamentals, toughness and intelligence.
seumalo won't overwhelm nfl defenders consistently with power and although he brings experience outside at tackle, his nfl future is inside, doing his best work at center. as long as the doctors give the thumbs up, seumalo has long-term starting potential as the game appears to come easy to him.

strengths
Coordinated athlete with loose lower body to sink and sit in his stance...smooth mover laterally with balanced feet and controlled steps...re-anchors well to withstand power due to his flexible core and textbook technique...highly instinctive and understands angles...upper and lower halves always in sync, winning early in the snap.
lacks prototypical bulk or the frame to add substantial muscle mass...relies on technique over power, lacking the brawling strength to make up for a misstep with his leverage or mechanics...bad habit of getting overeager, leading to lunges...lacks ideal length or base width to stay on the outside at tackle in the nfl.
Injury history is a red flag, missing the entire 2014 season after a broken left foot (Jan. 2014), which required two surgeries and took longer than expected to heal (went 20 months in between starts); missed the 2013 season opener due to a bruised left knee (Aug. 2013); nagging hip injury that plagued him throughout his freshman season (Sept. 2012).
relaxed prior to punch and times his jabs with strong hands...uses initial momentum to create movement in the run game...runs his feet at contact and looks to bury his target...flashes a finishing mean streak and plays with the needed toughness, both physically and mentally...son of a coach with ideal make-up and football character - glue of the offensive line...versatile starting experience with multiple starts at left tackle, right tackle, right guard and center.
