Corey Levin

OG, OT · Chattanooga
It isn't often that a small school offensive lineman gets national attention but then again, Levin - a three-time All-American with starts at left guard (27) left tackle (23) and right tackle (one) - is a pretty unique prospect. He signed with the Mocs with little fanfare but after redshirting his first season on campus, Levin proved to be an immediate standout, starting 11 games (and playing in all 12) at the critical left tackle position, earning a spot on the Southern Conference's All-Freshman squad. He was voted the conference's top overall blocker after each of the next two seasons while splitting duties between left tackle and left guard and frankly, probably should have been honored with it for the third consecutive year as a senior, which would have made him the only three-time winner of the SoCon Jacobs Blocking Trophy in history. As it stands, Levin is a possible top 100 pick. The only Moc to be drafted that highly in the past 60 years is a receiver you may have heard of, Terrell Owens. Though Levin will obviously be facing a tough adjustment to the greater size and speed of the NFL, he possesses the squatty frame, agility and smarts to handle the transition. While perhaps quick enough to handle blocking outside, Levin lacks ideal height and arm length, projecting best inside at guard or perhaps even center. STRENGTHS: Levin possesses an ideal frame for playing on the interior with a naturally low center of gravity due to a classic "Fred Flintstone" build including a powerful core, relatively short legs and light feet. Despite his "blocky" frame, Levin shows good initial quickness and lateral agility to mirror in pass protection, traits that also helped him be quite effective while pulling as a run blocker. Levin shows good balance and agility on the move, sliding out of his stance and leading backs around the edge. He locks onto targets quickly and provides a powerful punch on delivery, showing the finishing mentality that will endear him to offensive line coaches. Durable, reliable performer. Started 51 games over his career, including the final 45 consecutively. WEAKNESSES: Levin's quickness and power made him a man amongst boys at this level but he got away with shoddy technique, at times. He will stop his feet and lean into opponents, at times, which when combined with relatively short frame, leaves him vulnerable to swim moves. Further, Levin can get a bit high with his hand placement and may lack ideal arm length as he has proven vulnerable to butt-and-jerk moves... Levin's experience lies outside at left tackle and guard but his best position in the NFL may be at center, a position he never played for the Mocs. IN OUR VIEW: Had Levin been starring for a Big Ten or ACC school rather than the FCS' Southern Conference, he might be regarded as a Day Two pick. Arm length could be key to Levin's final projection with a switch to center a possibility. COMPARES TO: Josh Sitton, Chicago Bears: Originally drafted by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2008 draft out of Central Florida, Sitton has developed into one of the league's more dependable interior blockers. Levin has a long ways to go before warranting a comparison to Sitton, a three-time Pro Bowler but he possesses a similar blend of quickness, balance and bulk as the 6-3, 318 pounder.
