Recent Duke Johnson Notes
Duke Johnson
lacks ideal size for a three-down back in the nfl and likely will need to be part of a two-back system. may struggle to produce as an inside runner in the nfl. size also comes into play in pass protection, where technique can be spotty. suffered a broken ankle in 2013. returned to full strength in 2014, but was banged up or failed to finish multiple games and will require thorough medical checks.
COMPARES TO
good hands out of the backfield, with the ability to get downfield on wheel routes or split out wide in some formations.
WEAKNESSES
strengths
Impressive acceleration. Alternately displays burst, agility and light feet to high-step through tackles and an effective stiff-arm. Patient runner willing to stretch plays and then hit the hole hard. Shows the "greasy knees" to cut and accelerate in one fluid motion, eluding would-be tacklers. Despite small stature, fights hard for every yard and shows a highly competitive nature.
lesean mccoy, eagles -- yes, it's a lofty comparison that johnson has much to do to earn, but he does display the jump-cuts and easy acceleration that are mccoy trademarks.
