MyCole Pruitt

TE, FB/H-BACK · Southern Illinois
Most productive and accomplished tight end in Missouri Valley Football Conference history, Pruitt led all NCAA tight ends with 81 catches and 13 touchdown receptions in 2014. Consistently productive, leading the team in receiving three of the last four seasons. Tape leaves you wanting more and he is untested against elite competition, but Pruitt has obvious talent. He moves well for the position with the versatility to be an impact pass-catcher and potential blocker. Needs development in many areas -- route-running and consistent effort for starters -- but he has NFL starter potential.

strengths

Stocky build with good thickness on his frame. Gliding speed to catch the ball in stride and motor down the field. Full, long strides to get his momentum going quickly. Smooth release off the line of scrimmage with an athletic lower body and natural fluidity in his breaks. Good footwork in his routes and shows the ability to fool defenders and create room to work. Big, soft hands and attacks the ball in the air to secure. Natural adjustors with quick reflexes and body control. Fearless mindset and won't back down, doing a nice job in traffic and on 50/50 chances to gain body position. Tough and physical as a blocker with the aggressive upper body to lock out and finish. Versatile to line up inline and slot. Collected a number of accolades as the first player in SIU history to be named consensus All-American in back-to-back seasons. Highly productive and leaves school as the conference record holder in career catches (211), receiving yards (2,601) and receiving touchdowns (25) for a tight end.

weaknesses

Lacks ideal height and length for the position. Lazy route runner and appears to be moving at half-speed too often, slowing in his breaks and not staying under control. Makes it too easy for defenders to anticipate his path, not consistently setting up his routes. Needs to help out his quarterback and do a better job finding open zones - doesn't have a natural feel in this area. Looks to avoid contact, playing too tentative after the catch. Needs to be more assertive and a tougher finisher. Runs out of gas and doesn't show a second gear. Not a very detailed target and needs to play smarter. Novice inline blocker and not overpowering, too content with just getting in the way and not using his hands or intensity. Some durability concerns after his junior season was ended after fracturing his right tibia (Nov. 2013), which required surgery.
